The best benefits of owning your own grooming business
As a grooming business owner for over 25 years, the best benefit for me is getting to make my own schedule.
It’s super nice to not have to be on someone else’s schedule, like you are if you work for another company.
As just one example, I can take a vacation with my family whenever we want to go somewhere, I don’t have to ask a boss if it’s okay if I take certain days off.
Having all the time I need for myself and my family is very important to me, and thanks to my grooming business I’ve had this luxury for many years.
Of course, the only reason me and my family can even take vacations or have nice things is because of all the money my grooming business makes.
So, the second best benefit for me is the money.
I know that might sound shallow, but when you start a grooming business, the ultimate goal whether you like it or not is to make money.
Getting to work with dogs and make their owners smile is just icing on the cake!
Did you know...?
It’s a great feeling when my business has a really good day and I make $1,000 + in a single day!
Of course, another great benefit is being in control and not having to answer to a boss.
In your grooming business you are your own boss.
But you still have to understand that being your own boss is a lot of responsibility, and it takes a lot of discipline.
One of the main reasons I wanted to open my own business was because I was tired of not being able to do things the way I wanted them done.
As I’m sure you probably know, working under someone else can be frustrating to say the least.
It’s really frustrating when you can’t bring your ideas to life because you have to go along with your boss.
Did you know...?
A grooming business will easily give you the power to be your own boss.
If you’ve never experienced this, it’s hard to describe how great it is!
Benefits of being a groomer
All of the things I’ve discussed so far really come with being the owner of any business, not just a grooming business.
But there are many other things that make being a groomer special, and some of my favorite things are:
Taking care of pets
Taking care of pets and making sure they are clean and comfortable is a great, great accomplishment.
Being a groomer you get to do this every day, and both the pets and the owners will love you for it.
Making people happy
Speaking of the owners, I love to see them smile and laugh when they see their pets after a fresh bath and groom.
To most people their pets are like children, and when they see them so clean and happy it makes them super happy as well.
Being a trusted source
Once you are an experienced groomer, people will come to you when they have questions about their pets.
With your experience, you will learn how to spot health problems, and you’ll also learn how to care for some of these problems.
Sometimes groomers save the lives of pets by spotting something while grooming that the owners might not have noticed, such as a tumor, or an infection.
Sometimes the owners will notice something and ask you to look at it.
Knowing that your experience as a groomer can help actually save a pet’s life by speaking with the owners is another great benefit.

"My plan is to work for a groom shop for at least 1 year to get experience with all kinds of dogs and maybe cats too. I’m going to save up my money and try to find a cheap place to rent (most places are cheap where I live) to open my own groom shop and I also plan to sell doggie clothes and other things. I’m looking forward to having my own business and working for me and not someone else for a change."
