Like a lot of businesses, you have many different options when it comes to choosing a location for your grooming business.
One of the best things about grooming is you can open a business almost anywhere.
The fact is pets are everywhere these days, and whether you live in a large city or a small town, there should be plenty of customers who need your services.
Did you know...?
Most regular customers take their pets to the groomer every 6 - 8 weeks, so once you have a client he/she will pay you around 8-9 times a year.
Even if you only have 200 regular customers, you can still earn around $80,000 a year.
Most grooming businesses are located in one of three locations:
A retail center (like a shopping center)
A free-standing commercial building
The groomer’s home
All of these locations have advantages and disadvantages:
For example, a busy retail center can give you excellent exposure to new customers, so you don’t have to spend as much on advertising.
One disadvantage is that the rent in most retail centers can be expensive.
A free-standing building that is away from other businesses can be much cheaper to rent or even buy than a space in a retail center.
But the main disadvantage is you don’t have the same exposure to new customers, and you will have to spend more time and money on advertising your business so that people know you are there.
Working out of your home is a great option. The main advantage is you won’t have to pay rent and utilities (phone, internet, power) for a commercial space.
But again, there are also disadvantages. First you need a home that’s large enough to accommodate a grooming business. Obviously not every home has the necessary space.
A lot goes into choosing a location for a grooming business.
I personally prefer a retail center, and that’s where my business has been located for the past 25 years.
Yes, the rent is expensive, but since my business is now established I have plenty of customers.
And if customers move away or something happens, since my business is in a very busy area, I can immediately get new customers without having to even advertise.
My business has consistently made over $100,000 each year for the past 25 + years.
If you’re serious about opening your own grooming business, choosing a location is just one of many important factors you have to consider.
If you choose the right location, you can have a great career and make a lot of money.
If you choose the wrong location, your business will probably fail.
Some grooming businesses fail within the first year because of a poor location.
But if your location is good, you can build your business into a money-making machine.
I made the Get into Grooming package to help you avoid making mistakes that most new groomers make.
If you’re not into grooming yet, that’s even better because Get into Grooming will help you get started with everything the right way, from becoming a groomer, to finding the best job, to opening your own business.
